Joyous, colourful, artisanal fabrics inspired by South African stories & traditions are designed and handprinted in our busy studio in Muizenberg, Cape Town.
We are traditional craftsmen. Colour mixing, hand printing layer by layer, colour by colour, slow, deliberate, focused and beautiful. Each print is just a little different because it’s done by hand.
Carole never intended to be a textile designer and trained as a French and English teacher. Twenty-eight years ago with no employment opportunities, Carole decided to embark on a new journey. She started painting fabric from her garage and selling tablecloths at the local craft markets to tourists and locals alike. The business grew over the years to employ over 40 people. Carole trained ladies from the local community.
Twelve years ago Carole added screen printing to her creative medium as she had always wanted to design a textile collection for the home.
Covid changed everything. She closed her shops. Retrenched thirty people and decided to focus her energies into screen printing. Luckily a collaboration with a large textile house St Leger & Viney gave her the impetus she needed.
Besides Colour and pattern Carole loves Home Décor and cooking and is delighted that she can now focus on putting her designs into her own textile collections as well as collaboration with like-minded people.
We are a small Team of twelve skilled people most of whom have been with the company for many years. We do every thing in house and you can learn more about Our Craft in the Process page.
If you are in Cape Town you are more than welcome to give us a call and make an appointment to come and visit. We have a showroom in the studio where you can view our textiles and a small Factory Shop where we sell our seconds, sampling and discontinued ranges at barren prices.
We do our utmost to create with respect to the people that work for as and the environment that we live in. We are proudly plastic free and over the years have removed all plastic from our packaging.
We sew on each tag with cotton and all the pigments used for in our printing are environmentally friendly. Our team works in a spacious environment with loads of fresh air and we adhere to all the principles of fair trade.
Due to new duties recently imposed on textiles imported into the United States from South Africa, we will now be routing all US and Canadian web sales through French Home, our distributor based near Boston. French Home carries a curated selection of our products, and purchasing through them avoids additional duties, as these have already been paid.
