An Update from Carole

My Dear Friends,

It has been a long while since I wrote to you, my last update shared the need to move towards a succession plan, as I am away in Spain for much of the year and many have since asked if my business has  been sold.

I have come to understand that my love of the art of hand-printing textiles and design is a very large part of who I am. I dream in patterns and colour. Everything I see, I translate into a design, a piece of fabric, pottery, a story, or a meal.

It has been an amazing journey of tremendous growth owning my own business.

I considered simply shutting the business down, but that felt so traumatic. Imagining all our tables and screens being carted off to the scrap yard filled me with anguish. So much potential lost. The staff, or artisans as I call them, have learnt so much over the years, mixing colours, painting, printing, and so much more. Their skills and our relationships would be lost too.

And so I have decided to find a younger generation to move the business forward, with me as designer, mentor and creative. To this end I remained in South Africa this year and set up a more streamlined vision for the company. The focus now on Handprinted Textiles, Cushions, and Table linen. Having the opportunity to build a Fabric Library and explore colour, pattern, and art to my heart’s content.

To herald this new beginning I chose to start with The Fynbos Garden Collection. I am surrounded by a Floral Kingdom; plants and flowers that we call Fynbos and found in abundance everywhere I look. So what better theme for a new beginning than plants, celebrating Mother Earth with gratitude for the abundance and joy that is so freely given to us.

I am excited to share with you some of the beauty of this new collection. It has taken six months to put together and I want to thank my dearest friend and artist, Karina, for all her help in putting this collection together. To Donovan and the Team for all the hard work, being so gracious and willing to do the hundreds of changes I made. The is a good beginning. Our fabric library will continue to grow. You can look forward to viewing more collections of great diversity in the future.

I will be heading off the Spain at the end of the month. A young Team will be managing the business; Donovan in production and Lauriane will be on hand to handle all sales and marketing queries. I am always available to help with queries on collaboration, decor and design.
